A Buddhist Residential Training and Retreat Center in the Practice Lineage of the Vidyadhara Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche

Dzogchen Meditation Center is an independent meditation center founded by direct students of the Vidyadhara Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche and the Vajra Regent Osel Tendzin in 2006.   We  work to preserve their authentic transmission of the Kagyu, Nyingma and Shambhala  Dharma in the West.

We are located on the New Meadows River in the Mid-Coast area of Maine and offer residential training opportunities in the Three Yanas of Tibetan Buddhism as developed by Trungpa Rinpoche through his three month seminary program. We offer a comprehensive approach to spiritual training based on Trungpa Rinpoche's notion of the Practice Center as "Container Principle." When we live and practice together as a sangha within the boundaries of the retreat center schedule the power of our practice becomes magnified which creates an atmosphere of realization and blessings-- Jinlap in Tibetan.
Living in a practice environment allows individuals to focus on practice and study and enables them to penetrate the wisdom of the Buddhadharma through direct experience. All of Trungpa Rinpoche's retreat centers were based on this principle as was his three month seminary program.  The Dzogchen Meditation Center's mission is to maintain this powerful tradition of communal practice through its residential retreat program.  To engage in training at DMC please look at our upcoming retreats and residential training options.  Dzogchen Meditation Center is not open to the general public.  To engage in training one must apply to attend a retreat.

The Surmang Kagyu Order

The Center is also the home of the Surmang Kagyu Order --a  contemplative order of Ngakpas (tantric lay practitioners) dedicated to the propagation and preservation of the Buddhist path laid out by Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche.  Belonging to the Order entails a complete commitment to this path.  The Center offers regular retreats designed to provide members of the Order with the means to engage this path properly and fully.  To learn more about joining the Order contact Tashi Armstrong in the Main Office (207) 607-3392.
